Duskfade Zirian

Zirian

Duskfade's protagonist — the apprentice who wields the Minutero to save his sister.

Who Is Zirian?

Zirian is the player character of Duskfade — a young workshop apprentice who sets out to rescue his sister Allira from the Clock Tower that has plunged the world of Tearfeld into eternal night. He is not a chosen hero; he is a brother who refuses to give up.

Zirian at a Glance

Role

The protagonist and only playable character. You fight, explore, and grow as Zirian across four corrupted regions.

Weapon

The Minutero — his grandfather’s clock-hand sword, a Clockmaker tool repurposed as a weapon with multiple transformable forms.

Companion

Cuckoo, the sassy mechanical bird implied to have been built by Allira. It fights beside him with its own support skill tree.

Look

Brave but inexperienced. His rat-tail hairstyle is a deliberate nod to Disney’s Treasure Planet (2002), one of the game’s tonal inspirations.

Zirian’s Role in the Story

When their clockmaker grandfather passed away, Zirian and his younger sister Allira were left with his workshop and his secrets. Allira’s investigation into the Master Clockmakers accidentally unleashed the Inkies and trapped her inside the giant Clock Tower sealed with four chains. Zirian’s entire journey — smashing each chain, defeating each emotional boss, and mastering the clockwork world — is driven by one goal: bring Allira home.

Unlike a typical “chosen one,” Zirian starts with basic sword skills and unlocks abilities, gadgets, and Minutero transformations as he journeys through the corrupted regions. His growth from apprentice to hero is the spine of the story.

Real-World Heart

The narrative was shaped by Narrative Designer Ricardo Chorques Mesa, drawing from his real loss of a grandfather who was also a clockmaker. Zirian’s grief and determination are the emotional core of Duskfade.

Zirian’s Skill Tree

Progress in Duskfade is item-driven: find Upgrade Gears and spend them across the game’s four skill-tree branches. The Zirian branch is the protagonist’s own progression, alongside the Minutero, Gadgets, and Cuckoo branches.

Cosmetic Only

Flasks of Dye unlock alternate color schemes for Zirian. They are purely cosmetic — no trophy is tied to them, so you can safely ignore them on a trophy-only run.

Combat Kit & The Time-Freeze Dodge

Zirian’s bread-and-butter is the time-freeze dodge — a perfectly-timed roll that briefly stops time, leaving frozen enemies open to free hits. It is the single skill that turns every boss from a wall into a rhythm, and the one to master first.

Melee

Short sword chains with the Minutero. Use 2–3 hits after a safe opening, then reposition — most bosses punish greed.

Dodge

The time-freeze roll is your best defense and offense. Layer it onto telegraphed swings.

Gadgets

Hook-shot, grapple, glide, and wall-grab open new routes and break boss rhythms in phases.

Before tough fights, collect Clock Heart Pieces (3 = +1 Max Health) and raise Time Energy with Star Core Fragments. See the Beginner Guide to learn the dodge step by step.

Voice & Cast

Duskfade features fully voice-acted cinematic cutscenes, with Zirian and Cuckoo’s banter performed by a voice cast the developers have praised. As of launch, Weird Beluga has not published an official character voice-actor credits list, so we are not listing names we cannot verify. We will update this section if cast details are released.
